After a difficult 2013, his year is off to a great start, dodging bullets that might have landed if this was still 2013. A loud clunking noise in the front of his car that he feared was his still-new (and expensive) shocks, was nothing more than the sounds the metal of the undercarriage of a Corolla makes in the air of the Polar Vortex. The chipped tooth that he was certain would lead to a costly and time-consuming third crown, needed nothing more than some smoothing and filling. The routine GI appointment scheduled for 1/21, but incorrectly put into Froedtert’s system for 1/27, such that when he arrived he was about to be turned away (this would = stress and frustration over lost time from the workday), was miraculously kept because the PA (physician’s assistant) just happened to have a free half hour. Said GI appointment was nothing but good news – bimonthly labs all look good, overall health is excellent AND best of all, there is a new medication on the market that can be used if Remicade stops working (until recently, Remicade was the end of the line).
This birthday boy named Joe, ran 4 miles today in honor of turning 44. He ran those miles at a 7:54 pace. This is remarkable since he’s only been running for 4 weeks. He will quickly return to his previous capabilities. He has been notified by Joy, that he was gifted the registration for his 2014 comeback race, the Eisenbahn ½ Marathon in West Bend on 4/27/14. He will kill it! He will kill it just as he’s killed physical therapy. After progressing in model form through 9 months of prescribed PT, his therapist has admitted there is nothing more to throw at him. On 1/28, it is anticipated that Dr. Vetter (shoulder surgeon) will say he is done with P.T. , which would be the icing on the birthday cake (or rather, the chocolate mousse pie) – for 1 year (since shoulder issues began) he has spent 2 mornings every week at Aurora Sports Medicine Center, it will be nice to no longer have that extra commitment on the calendar.
The birthday boy likes the symmetry of the number 44, and the numbers 4 and 4 seem to like him.
What a great blog---it sure lets us all know what a great guy Joe is and how much you appreciate him. Glad to know all aspects of his health are going good and also good to know there is an alternative should his remicade fail. He has done just superbly this past year dealing with all the stuff that beset him. Thisiyear can only be better!!!
